Day 1: Rio de Janeiro 5:00 p Its stunning setting and joyous lust for life make Rio a cidade maravilhosa, "marvelous city." Ipanema, Copacabana, samba - the words alone conjure Brazilian paradise. Sample shore excursion: A Night Out in Rio - Dinner & Samba Show; Beaches of Rio & Sugarloaf Mountain; Corcovado & Rio City Tour Day 2-3: At Sea Day 4: Buenos Aires, Argentina 6A - 9P In the "Paris of South America," find ten million portenos passionate about futbol, tango and theater at midnight. A short flight away, Iguazu Falls roars in the jungle. Sample shore excursions: Tango Show; The Palaces of Buenos Aires; Iguazu Falls. Day 5: Montevideo, Uruguay 8A - 6P Friendly and genteel, Montevideo honors colonial customs: long lunches, siestas, high tea. Stanely, Falkland Islands 8A-5P Scotland under the Southern Cross: moorlands, pubs, red phone booths, sheep ranches, a "cuppa tea." Plus penguins of every type: gentoo, Magellanic, king. Day 9: At Sea Day 10: Antarctic Sound Day 11: South Shetland Islands Day 12: Wilhelm Archipelago Day 13: Cape Horn & Drake Passage Day 14: Ushuaia, Argentina 7A-3P The southernmost town in the world, where dominating peaks loom on three sides; the fourth opens to the Beagle Channel, where sea lions bellow and king crab rules. Day 15: Punta Arenas, Chile 7A-8P This remote town, pioneered by Yugoslav settlers and sheep ranchers, sits on rolling hills overlooking the Strait of Magellan. Day 15: Strait of Magellan Day 16: Amalia Glacier, Canal Sarmiento Day 17: Darwin Channel Chilean Fjords Day 18: Puerto Montt, Chile 8A-6P Gateway to the scenic Lake District, a series of fragrant eucalyptus and pine forests, icy lakes, Bavarian hamlets and luminous snowcapped volcanoes.
